Economic Opportunities

Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda and Buner, these four districts in Pakistan are fairly underfunded. Not many opportunities are available for the residents of these districts in Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa. AGAHI in collaboration with Philip Morris International intends on providingpractical vocational training, and job placement opportunities for up to 480 men and women. The program will also look in to the possibility of offering micro-credit consultation small business management training. In its pilot phase, the project aims to improve lives of the local community members; while also focusing on creating a cadre of journalists trained to report on economic development challenges and opportunities.

Energy Efficiency

In 2012-13, AGAHI provided Solar Energy resources to rural communities where energyavailability was an issue.Up to 72 units of solar water geysers were installed in schools and community health centers in Mardan, Swabi, Buner, Charsadda, and Sahiwal. These communities were having difficulty obtaining hot water especially during the winter season, which was affecting the health of the people. Installation of the geysers benefitted 6000 students, 520 teachers, and 1200 health unit visitors who were able to enjoy the benefits of warm water.

Network Readiness

AGAHI in partnership with Nokia and Mobilink, and in collaboration with The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO launched an innovative and groundbreaking programme on M-Learning.

The “Mobile-learning Project for Teacher’s Professional Development” program helped in training public school teachers in remote areas of Pakistan. In this programme, provided mobile phones which had the “Nokia Education Delivery (NED)’ application installed. The application enabled both the teachers and students to download educational videos from a catalogue.

The partners collaborating on the project received immense recognition for launching an innovative initiative in the region.

This programme has been seen as the future of improving student’s learning ability, which also promotes new learning methods for the teachers.
