The 2nd Agahi Award distribution ceremony was organised by Mishal Pakistan at the National Art Gallery Auditorium on Saturday.
Rana Jawad, Bureau Chief, Geo TV Network received the award for most popular TV channel on behalf of the organisation. Mahtab Haider of The News received award in the category of Business and Economy. Shahzada Irfan Ahmad of the News International received two awards in categories of Gender, and Corporate Social Responsibility, while Maimoona Saeed of Geo TV network and Sabina Faraz of Jang group received awards for their works in the categories of Corruption and Environment respectively.
The award ceremony opened with a slide show as a tribute showing journalists who lost their lives in the line of duty. The Agahi Awards are an annual series of awards for journalism in Pakistan, developed under the umbrella of the “Credibility Lab” at Mishal for creating an appreciation methodology for ethical and quality content. The evaluation methodology and criteria of the awards has been designed on the pillars of Unesco’s Media Development Indicators in collaboration with the Centre for International Media Ethics (CIME) and Unesco headquarters in Paris.
The awards were inaugurated in March 2012 and have become the most prestigious awards for journalism in Pakistan.
Creating a diversified linkage between print, television, radio and the online media, the awards this year comprise 50 categories including business and economy, conflict, corruption, crime, education, environment, infotainment, the nexus between water, energy and food security, gender and governance, health, extremism and terrorism, peace, interfaith and dignity.
